Minor-League Shakeup

The Carolina Mudcats minor-league baseball team has been sold to a group in Florida. The team is slated to move after next season.

The Mudcats Double-A franchise is leaving largely due to the travel costs associated with flying to games in the far-flung Southern League.

But baseball will remain at Five County Stadium in Zebulon. The Kinston Indians franchise will be moving there in 20-12 to play in the single-A Carolina League. It's likely that the team in Zebulon will continue to be called the Mudcats.

That means Kinston will lose its team. Professional baseball has been in the eastern North Carolina town for nearly 100 years. Team officials in Kinston say they will try to keep pro baseball alive there when the Indians leave.
