Publix Supermarkets will add 1,000 jobs at a new distribution facility in Greensboro. The ramp up will take four years and Publix plans to invest $300 million in the project.

In return, Publix will receive nearly $50 million in total incentives from Greensboro, Guilford County and the state. The North Carolina Economic Investment Committee approved the incentive package at an 11 a.m. meeting Wednesday and Gov. Roy Cooper announced the project at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce's State of our Community meeting.

These new Publix jobs will have an average salary of $44,000, which is below the Guilford County average wage of $46,744.

Publix considered opening the distribution facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina. In a report, the Economic Investment Committee wrote, "From an incentives perspective, certification of the project as a large fulfillment facility, the availability of local incentives such as property tax reimbursements or abatements, and training assistance will impact the site location decision."
