Here's the latest in our occasional series called Songs We Love. It's a look at the stories behind the songs we're playing on WUNC Music. That's the new music stream from North Carolina Public Radio. (WUNC's Songs We Love is also available as a podcast.)
For this episode we're focued on the song "Coffee." This is the break through song for the Durham band Sylvan Esso. When it came out in 2014 it made a number of best songs of the year lists and at WUNC Music it remains one of the songs we love.
The band says writing songs like this one is an organic process. Singer Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn says it starts with a beat, hook or twist of phrase -- then they just let it go. For the full story and the song, make sure to listen to the podcast or this audio here:
You can find WUNC Music on the WUNC App - on Tune In and in the Triangle area on our HD2 Channel.
