Raleigh glam rocker Kat Robichaud finished in the top ten of NBC's program The Voice last season. Robichaud says that she never could have imagined the kind of success she found on television: "I was an awkward little girl, I just didn't fit in anywhere. High school sucked. College, honestly wasn't too much better. And it wasn't until I joined my band that I started finding my voice. When my band broke up I was devastated. I didn't know what to do. And the answer came, miraculously and weirdly enough in the form of the hit TV show, The Voice."
Kat made the most of her time on the program. She tried performance techniques that would make her stand out. At one point, she crowd surfed while singing. She told WUNC's Frank Stasio "It's a live performance, you want to give people something to watch, not just listen to."
Recently Kat launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an album, her first since The Voice. She reached her goal, $20,000, in just two days. So she's added a stretch goal to the campaign. If she can raise $40,000, she plans to live stream a concert/costume party from the Lincoln Theater in downtown Raleigh. She has eight more days to meet the goal.
Kat had a cover band before her success on The Voice. Some of their music is on Youtube:
