Millions of sports fans might not be able to get the ACC Network when it launches next month.
The Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN have partnered to create the TV network to broadcast and promote conference sporting events. But only a few carriers have signed on.
ACC Commissioner John Swofford says fans can still get the network, even if their TV provider doesn’t carry it.
“You’ll be able to get the ACC Network anywhere in the nation, one way or the other,” Swofford said. “Whether it’s Direct TV or Hulu that are already on board, so people will have the opportunity to change carriers if they are not happy with their current one who is not carrying the ACC network.”
Comcast, Dish Network, and Charter are among the carriers who have not yet signed on. The ACC Network launches August 22.
The network will carry select conference athletic events and round-the-clock sports programming devoted to UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, and other conference members.
The partnership between the Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN has been many years in the making. Swofford touted the new network at Football Media Day.
“All in all, significant strides have been made on all network fronts and we are extremely pleased with the progress that continues to be made and look forward to the August launch with great anticipation,” he said.
