Youth ReporterWilliam Townsend was born in a WakeMed Hospital on April 24, 2006 in Raleigh, NC. He is a kind person and very avid reader with one of his favorite books being the Percy Jackson series. He is a rising sophomore at Southeast Raleigh High School and former freshman class president. By becoming an WUNC intern, William hopes to find a passion for a career, meet great peers, and have a great time.

In North Carolina, within the past year, people in some local districts are pushing to remove books from schools that focus on gender identity and racially sensitive subjects. This summer, WUNC Youth Reporter William Townsend talked to teens in the Triangle who were directly impacted and spoke out against book bans in their communities.
