Uneven Battlefield: Discussing Discrimination In The Military

President-elect Joe Biden's administration is poised to effect significant change to U.S. military culture.

The incoming commander-in-chief has announced his nomination for defense secretary: retired, four-star general Lloyd Austin. If confirmed, Austin would become the nation's first Black defense secretary. Biden has also pledged to lift a near-total ban on transgender people serving in the military when he takes office in 2021.

How might America's armed services, which are more diverse than ever, look different in the next few years with the help of policies and leadership that create more equitable opportunities for troops and veterans?

Join WUNC for a virtual discussion to explore barriers to equality in the U.S. military on Thursday, December 17th at 7p.m.  Journalists Leoneda Inge and Anita Rao will host conversations with people who are influencing a culture of diversity and inclusion in the military today.

The event will be recorded for use on WUNC’s podcasts Tested and Embodied, and attendees are welcome to bring their questions, ideas and experiences to share.  RSVP below to receive a link to attend.

This event is part of the American Homefront Project, funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
