The 82nd Airborne Division celebrates its 100th year this week. The Fort Bragg-based division is known best for its parachute jumps during World War II, and now specializes in rapid deployments - with or without parachutes.
Today, one of the division's three brigades always has some of its soldiers ready to board aircraft and ready to fight.

Over 80 years ago, Walter Morris created the 555th Airborne Platoon, also known as the “Triple Nickles.” There is an exhibit about them at a museum on Fort Liberty - formerly known as Fort Bragg. There’s another exhibit at a Fayetteville Museum that will soon serve as one of 50 markers on the North Carolina Civil Rights Trail.
