Winston-Salem Hoping For Herbalife Expansion

Forsyth County Commissioners have approved economic incentives in an effort to lure 500 full-time jobs to Winston-Salem. Herbalife International is a California based nutrition and skin care product company. It's considering adding hundreds of jobs on the east coast; jobs that would pay an average of $41,000 a year. County Commissioner Walter Marshall was part of a unanimous vote this week to offer more than $1.1 million in tax incentives.

Walter Marshall: "You're getting a good company. You're talking about a healthy product. It's a win-win situation for us. We've had a vacant property for several years and that factored in also."

The now vacant site was once occupied by Dell. The computer company received millions of dollars in city, county and state incentives, but left after five years in Winston-Salem. In total, Herbalife is being offered nearly $14 million in incentives. Marshall says he expects the company to choose between North Carolina and a site in Georgia within the next couple of weeks.
