Governor To Deliver State of the State

The Governor plans to address state legislators tonight in her annual State of the State Address.

Governor Perdue is expected to tackle a number of difficult topics in her speech tonight. The first is undoubtedly a huge projected budget shortfall of about 2.7 billion dollars. Last week the governor said the shortfall was one billion dollars less than expected because of increased revenues and other savings. Republicans have already passed a bill to ease budget problems by using a number of different funds, including one that's used to attract businesses to the state. The governor has hinted she may veto that bill.

Jessica Jones covers both the legislature in Raleigh and politics across the state.
