Ingrid Michaelson: Unique Indie-Pop and Folk

Ingrid Michaelson frequently gets compared to the likes of Fiona Apple and Regina Spektor, but she's staked out her own distinct musical territory. The formally trained 27-year-old New Yorker fuses indie-pop and folk in a smooth and unique way that helped her attract a large audience via MySpace.

Though currently unsigned, Michaelson has become a media darling since the release of last year's Girls and Boys and its songs' placement on TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill. Her single "The Way I Am" has become a breakout hit, landing Michaelson in prominent TV commercials and making her one of the year's most successful new artists.

This segment originally aired Dec. 21, 2007.
