The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill introduced its new head football coach today. Larry Fedora signed a seven-year contract with the school worth $1.7 million per season. UNC fired coach Butch Davis at the start of this season. Davis' tenure ended abruptly when the team found itself embroiled in allegations of improper benefits and academic misconduct. The NCAA is investigating and UNC has already placed itself on two years probation.Fedora said at a news conference he is honored to take the job.

Larry Fedora: "Today is the first day of a new era of UNC football. And it's going to be exciting. You better buckle your seatbelts and you better hold on because it's going to be a wild ride. I believe UNC is one of the premiere universities in this great nation. I believe every player can and should earn his degree. I believe our football program can consistently compete for championships. UNC is a special place with a tremendous reputation, both academically and athletically. Chapel Hill is a great place to raise a family, and we're excited about getting settled here."
49-year-old Larry Fedora joins UNC after coaching four seasons at Southern Mississipi. He led his Golden Eagles to an 11-2 season and will coach them in a bowl game later this month.
