Representative Deborah Ross Is Stepping Down

Representative Deborah Ross
NC Legislature

A longtime state legislator is resigning from her post after a decade of public service.

Democratic Representative Deborah Ross announced earlier this month that she was taking a job as the general counsel of the Triangle Transit Authority. Her last official day at the legislature is Saturday.

Ross told House lawmakers that she will miss both her Democratic and Republican friends.

"I don't always agree with what's done or how it's done, but I still think I have some pretty close friendships across the aisle and in my caucus," Ross said. "And I guess the moral of this story is this institution is only good when we work together and we make this institution a better place, and we respect each other, because power is going to shift."

Ross nominated Grier Martin, a former Democratic lawmaker, to fill her seat at a Wake Democratic party meeting yesterday. Wake Democratic leaders approved the nomination.

Martin previously served as a legislator for eight years.
