A video of an altercation between a white student and black student at Wake Forest High School has been shared more than 6,000 times on Twitter and viewed more than 6,000 times on Instagram.

On Monday, students at the school staged a protest over the incident and the suspension of one of the students involved.

The video was originally posted by Tyler Goodell, who identifies himself as a student at the school and friend of the black student in the video. The clip shows the black student pulling the white student to the ground twice after anti-black racial slurs are heard. A female teacher intervenes before the recording stops.

Goodell gives his perspective of the confrontation in his Instagram post, stating that the white student in the video had been racially bullying the black student for the past couple of months. He writes that the bullying was ignored by a teacher.

According to Goodell's post, the black student was suspended for at least 10 days as a result of the altercation, and the white student did not receive any punishment.

Wake County Public School System spokeswoman Lisa Luten said that school officials are aware of the video and are investigating. She said that the school system is unable to share the discipline that the two students in the video received, because of federal student privacy laws.

Warning: The video contains violence and graphic language, including a racial slur.
