Allison Moorer, Recorded Live In Concert

After launching her career as a backing vocalist, Allison Moorer (sister of Shelby Lynne and, more recently, the wife of Steve Earle) became a solo artist following the inclusion of her Oscar-nominated song "A Soft Place to Fall" on the Horse Whisperer soundtrack. She's since recorded seven solo albums, the latest of which is titled Crows. Click the link above to hear Moorer perform some of her new material, live in concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

According to Moorer, Crows represents a departure from the tacit rules of country music: There's no set song structure, no conventional verse-chorus set-up. The result is a masterful mix of influences and ideas, from the cool jazz of one track to the Britpop-derived piano of another. Moorer isn't planning to tour in support of the album until this summer, so this is one of fans' first opportunities to hear its songs performed live.
