Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Live In Concert

An up-and-coming folk-rock singer-songwriter who crafts brooding, timeless, sophisticated pop songs, Elvis Perkins has earned lofty comparisons to the likes of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Click the link above to hear Perkins perform live in concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

Having lost both of his parents to tragedy — his father (actor Anthony Perkins) died of complications from AIDS in 1992, and his mother (photographer Berry Berenson) died in the Sept. 11 attacks — Perkins writes music that's reflective bordering on heartbreaking, yet it remains hopeful and quietly charming. His inspired and moving debut, Ash Wednesday, juxtaposes melancholy and hopefulness, as does Perkins' new full-band sequel, Elvis Perkins in Dearland.

Here, he'll perform with that full band — featuring multi-instrumentalists Brigham Brough, Wyndham Boylan-Garnett and Nick Kinsey — which employs delicately strummed guitars and the occasional frivolity of New Orleans-inspired brass.
