The Old Ceremony

WUNC's Back Porch Music on the Lawnseries kicks off another season of free concerts at American Tobacco in Durham with Thursday night's show featuring The Old Ceremony and The Backsliders. The concert is at 6 p.m. and is family and pet-friendly.

The Old Ceremony, based in Chapel Hill and fronted by songwriter Django Haskins, has been a regional favorite for more than a decade. "There is... a cinematic, imagistic quality to many of Haskins' lyrics that make for an often surrealistic, emotional listen," wrote critic Matt Collar in hisAll Music review of the band's 2012 release Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide.

Here's a preview from Haskins, recorded by WRAL-TV on the lawn at American Tobacco Campus:

Haskins also wrote and recorded the theme song for The State of Things on WUNC.

The show opens with some hardcore honky-tonk from The Backsliders.

You're invited to join us On the Lawn at American Tobacco Campus.
