Roads Will Be Busy For Memorial Day Weekend

The summertime travel season gets underway today. Officials at the State Department of Transportation are suspending most road works for the Memorial Day weekend. Tom Crosby works for AAA Carolinas. He says nearly a million drivers will be on North Carolina roads and highways this weekend, partly because gas prices have dropped from this time last year.

Tom Crosby: We're 22 cents a gallon less and prices have dropped 36 cents a gallon since they hit their peak at April 6th of this year. So we're at $3.55 a gallon now in North Carolina and Boone is the highest at $3.76 a gallon and our cheapest gas is in High Point at $3.45 a gallon.

Crosby says two-thirds of those surveyed said they were traveling to visit friends and family this weekend.
