The Philadelphia band Blood Feathers started out as a free-wheeling classic-rock outfit: Its members recorded their 2006 debut, Curse & Praise, in just a week. Since then, though, their ambitions have grown considerably, as the group has swollen to six members while fleshing out its songs with horns, keyboards and even four-part harmonies. As much as the increase in band membership stands out, Blood Feathers' real trick has been to fuse a wide variety of genres, from rock and blues to jazz and even gospel. The group's charming, gritty and hook-filled sophomore album, Goodness Gracious, finds Blood Feathers mixing all those elements to create something that still sounds like timeless American rock 'n' roll.
