Voters in Raleigh approved transportation and affordable housing bonds by about two-thirds of the vote.
The forty million dollar transportation package will help repave more than sixty miles of roads. The Moore Square Transit Center will be remodeled and many bus stops will be improved. The money will help build a new Amtrak station in the city. And it will fund about seven miles of new sidewalks. The 16 million dollar housing bond will give low interest loans to first-time home buyers and help build and renovate low-income housing units. About one million dollars will provide loans for residents whose homes were damaged in tornadoes in April. City leaders say they're not worried about incurring more debt because Raleigh has a triple A bond rating.
