Supporters of Greater Triangle YWCA Speak-Out

A community meeting will take place tonight to discuss the abrupt closing of the Y-W-C-A of the Greater Triangle.

Leoneda Inge:  Employees at the YWCA were given one days notice that they would be losing their jobs and the facility in Raleigh would cease operations. Funding has been drastically cut for the YWCA over the last several years.  Omisade Burney-Scott was the director of Strategic Projects at the YWCA. Burney-Scott says the community will be devastated without their services – like serving as a location for Meals on Wheels.

Omisade Burney-Scott:  A lot of our seniors are food insecure and live in food deserts and who knows if they have access to meals outside of the Golden Oaks program.  We also ran an after school program and a summer camp.

Tonight’s community meeting will take place at the YWCA offices on East Hargett Street in Raleigh.
