Watch Live: Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings Continue Thursday

J. Scott Applewhite

The Senate Judiciary Committee is holding hearings this week on President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Barrett, 48, has been a circuit judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit since 2017.

If confirmed, she would fill the seat left vacant with the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Sept. 18 at the age of 87, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Barrett will not be present Thursday as members of the committee will interview character witnesses and those who are concerned about her likely elevation to the Supreme Court. The Judiciary committee is expected to vote Oct. 22 on Barrett's nomination.

On Tuesday, Barrett said she wouldn't be a "pawn" for Trump in an election dispute and sidestepped a question fron Sen. Cory Booker about if Trump could pardon himself.

NPR will continue its live coverage of the hearings Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m. Watch live here:
