Duke Officials: Noose Perpetrator Caught

Duke Officials say they have identified the person who hung a noose outside the Bryan Student Center yesterday.

Officials did not release the name of the person, citing the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act. They did say the person was an undergraduate student and is no longer on campus.

Tips from other students led campus investigators to the individual, who admitted to the act.

"This was something that clearly outraged the entire community and students really bonded in joining many other students in trying to help us figure out what happened and be as responsive as we could," said Larry Moneta, Vice President for Student Affairs.

The student now faces a campus judicial process and possible criminal violations from the State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI.
