Student assignment is again on the agenda at five public hearings in Wake County.
The hearings were originally scheduled to give people a chance to express their opinions on a proposal that would have moved thousands of students back to schools closer to home in southeast Raleigh. It was a move that was in line with the board's new effort at so-called community schools. But this specific effort to reassign students stalled in mid-December, when the board voted to slow down the process until a broader plan could be developed. The hearings will go on, however. They start tonight at Cary High School and end next week at Garner Magnet High. It's likely the ongoing fight over student assignment, diversity, and community schools will draw heated comments.
Note: The first two hearings have been postponed due to inclement weather. The first hearing will now take place Wednesday night at Millbrook High School. The Cary High School hearing has been re-scheduled for January 24th.
