Underhill Rose Sings Of 'The Great Tomorrow'

Underhill Rose
Lynne Harty

You may have heard the music of Underhill Rose on WUNC's Back Porch Music.  The trio of Eleanor Underhill, Molly Rose and Salley Williamson has been singing and playing together since 2011 from their base in western North Carolina.

Their latest recording is called The Great Tomorrow

Banjo player Eleanor and guitarist Molly first started playing together at Warren Wilson College in 2004. They bonded over a mutual love of folk music. They began singing "Angel from Montgomery" together, which is still one of their staples. Salley brought her upright bass into the mix later.

All three composed songs that wound up on The Great Tomorrow. Here's a video of the trio performing "Love Looks Good On You."

The album has a thematic range, from a romantic tryst in the "Whispering Pines Motel," familial responsibility in "Shine" and a nostalgic cover of Paula Abdul's "Straight up."
