Raleigh Mayor Won't Seek Fifth Term

Raleigh's mayor says she will not run for another term. Independent Nancy McFarlane's fourth term in office expires later this year.

In a farewell video, McFarlane praised Raleigh's investments in parks, the arts, business incubators and affordable housing. But she said partisan bickering has become too acrimonious for her taste.

"The mean politics of Twitter and social media is painful when it's about you or someone that you love. This social disease has exploded since I first ran for City Council in 2007. Raleigh politics could use a reset. And I could use some time to think about what I want to do next."

McFarlane has worked as a pharmacist and entrepreneur. In her video, she said she wants to focus on her family and community as well as parks and arts moving forward.
