A panel of judges is set to hear arguments Monday about whether to uphold or reject North Carolina's newest legislative and congressional districts.
State Democrats filed a lawsuit challenging new district lines days after Republicans drew them in 2011. They claimed the districts re-segregate communities and split too many voting districts. GOP lawmakers said they comply with federal redistricting law.
The case stalled while the state Supreme Court decided whether attorneys for Republicans had to release certain documents. Justices ruled last month in their favor, saying some of those documents could remain confidential.
Three Superior Court judges will hear two complaints against the new districts Monday and Tuesday. The lawsuits are expected to go back to the Supreme Court regardless of how the judges rule this week.
