Power was still out Friday morning for hundreds of thousands of people in North Carolina after severe storms.
A fast-moving system swept across the state Thursday, knocking down trees and power lines. Duke Energy Progress says nearly 60,000 people were without power Friday morning in Wake County. Meteorologist Phil Badgett says damage reports came in quickly Thursday night."It's probably too numerous to mention. We have hundreds of reports of downed trees and power lines," Badgett said.
"In the Wake County area, it was pretty sporadic. In Orange, Chapel Hill was hit pretty hard. There are reports throughout the entire county in both cases."
Badgett says northern Forsyth County in the Triad also suffered significant damage. There were still more than 23,000 Duke Energy customers without power there Friday morning. Authorities say the storm was also responsible for two deaths in Wilkes County, west of the Triad.
