Heavy rain continues Friday morning as Tropical Storm Andrea moves toward North Carolina.
Flash flood warnings were in effect in the Triangle while the coast remained under a tropical storm warning. Tornado watches were also in effect for Rocky Mount, Wilson Goldsboro and the surrounding areas.
Meteorologist Scott Sharpe said he expects some wind gusts as the storm churns over the state, and some areas could get up to four inches of rain before the end of the day.
"We're seeing some pretty good rainfall rates out there, so it's going to be a very wet commute this morning throughout the Triangle area," Sharpe said.
"Looks like after mid-morning or late morning, thought, it may become a little more sporadic, but still some very heavy showers across the area through at least early to mid-afternoon."
Authorities on the Outer Banks say they're bracing for flood conditions, but forecasters say Andrea should not bring serious coastal flooding because the storm will push waves away from shore as it moves east. They say tides on the sound side of the Outer Banks could be about a foot above normal.
