North Carolina forecasters are keeping an eye on Hurricane Irene as it makes its way toward the southeast. The storm became a Category 2 hurricane late last night and is expected to strengthen to Category 3 later today. Meteorologist Katie Roussy says the latest forecast has North Carolina in the path of the storm.
Katie Roussy: "It has been shifting a little bit to the east, but it currently has it making landfall somewhere near the North Carolina-South Carolina border and then kind of tracking up eastern North Carolina. And the main impact will be Saturday into Sunday."
Roussy says it's too early to tell exactly where Irene will make landfall. The forecast track could shift west to Florida or far enough east to miss the Atlantic coast altogether.
