UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Holden Thorp has asked the student honor court to suspend its case against a female student. Landen Gambill claimed the proceeding was in retaliation for her speaking out against the university's handling of sexual assault cases.
Landen Gambill began publicly criticizing UNC-Chapel Hill after she and four other women filed a federal civil rights complaint. They say the University's judicial system mishandled her case and under-reported cases of sexual assault.
After she spoke at several rallies, Gambill's former boyfriend filed an honor court complaint. He said she was creating a hostile environment for him on campus. He was found not guilty of sexually assaulting her by an interim judicial panel.
In Thorp's statement asking the honor court to suspend the case against Gambill, he said the University will launch an external review of the claim of retaliation. He did not give a timeline for that review.
