Employment in North Carolina's tech industry grew by nearly 21% between 2013 and 2018, the third highest growth rate in the sector nationwide.

The North Carolina Tech Association found average wages in the tech sector also made the biggest ever year-on-year jump in 2018. The average wage for tech workers in 2018 was $130,000.

And wages are increasing at a much faster rate than surrounding states, according to lead economic analyst Ted Abernathy.

“The quality of the jobs that we're seeing overall in the state is better than some of our neighbors and I think a lot of that is driven by the higher concentration in technology jobs we're seeing over the last few years,” Abernathy said.

North Carolina's tech industry is expected to keep growing, with employment in the sector increasing by 10% over the next four years.
