The AAU Junior Olympics is already in Greensboro and runs through August 3. Meanwhile, the Wyndham Championship professional golf tournament will also come to the city in early August.
The two events are part of the growing sports tourism business in the area.
The AAU Junior Olympics is the world's largest youth track and field event, and brings more than 13,000 athletes to the city.
Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau president Henri Fourrier said youth sports events have their own way of boosting tourism.
“Typically when they [youth athletes] travel they bring the whole family, so it's a lot of heads in beds,” he said. “It's a good shot in the arm for any community that can successfully land one of these events.”
The Wyndham Championship comes to Greensboro July 29. Fourrier said having two major, but different, sporting events shows that Greensboro is a host city on-the-rise.
“It helps us build an event resume along the way so that when we go and compete for the next big event we can give them a list of the things that we've successfully hosted,” he said.
The Wyndham Championship is in town until August 4th
