NC Zoo Worker Dies In Fall During Drill

A worker died at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro Thursday morning.

In an announcement, the zoo said the fall happened during a workplace accident that did not involve animals.

"The entire Zoo community is deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of our team member."

The incident occurred in the Africa section. The zoo closed that section in the morning, and closed the entire zoo at 2 p.m.
