High Temperatures Forecast For Central NC This Week

Conservative Law Foundation

Forecasters are warning of extremely high temperatures for the rest of the week. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for a large swath of central North Carolina until 7 p.m. Wednesday.A high pressure system is producing the high temperatures and humidity, according to Meteorologist Mike Moneypenny.

“With just a small chance for showers and thunderstorms, temperatures are going to be screaming up into the mid 90s over most of the area, and this will bring our apparent temperature - or the heat index - up into the 105 degree range for several hours this afternoon,” Moneypenny said.

The high pressure system stalling over the area means the high temperatures will last through Friday, but a cold front and some thunderstorms should provide some relief this weekend, forecasters said.

“That should knock our temperatures back as well as produce some more widespread shower and thunderstorm activity over the weekend,” Moneypenny said. “With the additional cloud coverage and all, we're looking at high temperatures mostly in the upper 80s for Saturday, Sunday and probably right on in through early next week.”

Until then, forecasters recommend people limit their time outside and drink plenty of water.
