RDU Says Arrive Early For Flights This Summer

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport will begin renovations on its central parking garage on April 24 and will continue through the end of the year. Airport officials recommend travelers arrive two hours early this summer.
Construction delays aren't the only reason travelers should plan to arrive earlier this year, according to Airport Spokesman Andrew Sawyer.

"Not just for parking, but RDU is also busier than it ever has been before," Sawyer said. "We had over 11 million people last year, and this year we're ahead of that pace. Last year was a record year for us."

Officials say the airport is taking measures to ease potential delays.

RDU will provide travelers with up-to-date parking information on its homepage. More parking attendants will guide drivers to open spaces in the central garage. And more busses will serve the economy lot. Electric vehicles will also be available to transport passengers from the main garage to their terminals.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
