The Southern Environmental Law Center is suing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over public records related to conservation efforts for red wolves in eastern North Carolina.
The non-profit previously sued to block the agency from issuing permits that allowed red wolves to be shot.
This new lawsuit claims the Fish and Wildlife Service hasn't fully complied with a public records request to see the agency's plans for conserving the animals.
The agency has a duty to recover these wolves, according to the Law Center’s Ramona McGee.
“When the agency does not provide these public records, it inhibits the ability of the public to advocate for, understand, and protect these natural resources,” McGee said.
McGee said it's unclear what actions, if any, the agency has taken to reinstate the previous conservation rules for red wolves.
