Every corner of the state is experiencing a decline in its unemployment rate. The largest decline was in Graham County.
Graham County is far in the Western corner of the state – in the Great Smokey Mountains. The population sits around eight thousand people – so any movement in jobs can be dramatic. In January the jobless rate in Graham County was 19-point-four-percent – the highest in the state. Numbers released today puts the jobless rate there at 17-point-two percent. Statewide – 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties experienced a decline in unemployment. Only one county had a slight increase – Perquimans County. The county with the lowest jobless rate in the state – Orange County at 6-point-2-percent.
