Our student reporters for the Summer Youth Reporting Institute are venturing out this week to collect interviews for their original stories. We asked them what songs they will be listening to while they are on the go this summer. Check out their summer hits below:

Taylor Walker's Pick

"Latch" by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith

Why it's a hit: "It has a really good beat to it and Sam Smith is amazing altogether. They play it on the radio all the time and it gets me excited because it has a summertime feel to it. It's free and I like it. I could sing the song word for word if I had to with him."

Soraya Asfari's Pick

"Good For You" by Selena Gomez

"It just came out a couple days ago and I love Selena Gomez. Any song could be a summer song if you listen to it all summer long. It is different from her usual style and I just like that."

Joshua Bratcher's Pick

"Let Me Clear My Throat" by DJ Kool feat. Biz Markie and Doug E. Fresh

"I like the trumpet section of it. It's actually really crazy and I think it is really hype song so good for summer. It is really old, it's from 1996, the year I was born, so it was a good year."

Peyton Sickles' Pick

"All Day and All of the Night" by the Kinks

"For one, I just love the Kinks. They have a great iconic sound. But I’d associate it with summer because I’m busy all day and all night so it’s pretty fitting. Then there’s also the fact it’s simply just an awesome song."

Christina Dixon's Pick

"Shifting the Atmosphere" by Jason Nelson

"It's uplifting. It's like saying even though you've been down you still can come up. It just gets me in the mood for summer with its hope."

Samantha Lanevi's Pick

"Wilder Mind" by Mumford & Sons

"It's really different from their other stuff. I just like the change and I saw them in concert two weeks ago and it was incredible so I've been listening to it a lot this summer."
