Multiple NC community colleges receive bomb threats

Multiple community colleges in North Carolina received bomb threats on Thursday.

The main campus of Durham Tech and the Edgecombe County Community College campus in Rocky Mount were evacuated and eventually closed for the remainder of Thursday as authorities investigated the threats, according to social media posts from both colleges.

According to WRAL, Johnston County, Martin County, and Vance-Granville community colleges also received threats.

No suspicious items were found during a thorough search of all of the colleges' campuses.

Lawson Street in Durham has reopened and is accessible.

Durham Technical Community College and two other community colleges in central North Carolina received bomb threats on Thursday.

The main campus of Durham Tech and the Edgecombe County Community College campus in Rocky Mount were evacuated and eventually closed for the remainder of Thursday as authorities investigated the threats, according to social media posts from both colleges.

According to WRAL, Johnston County Community College was the third college to receive a threat.

No suspicious items were found during a thorough search of the Durham Tech and Johnston campuses. Johnston remained opened Thursday. Rocky Mount police continue to investigate on the Edgecombe campus

Around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Durham Technical Community College posted an emergency alert on its Facebook page telling everyone on main campus to shelter in place because of a bomb threat it had received.

Initially, two buildings, 6 and 10, were evacuated because of the threat. A second post around noon told staff and students on the campus to exit immediately.

The college will be closed for the rest of the day, according to its website.

Staff and students looking to use GoDurham transit can do so at the nearest bus stop on the corner of Lawson and Bacon streets, the website stated.

An initial Facebook post stated that everyone on campus should shelter in place and that two buildings had been evacuated because of the threat.
