Panthers Stomp Tampa Bay For 2nd-Straight Win

In the NFL, the Carolina Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-17 yesterday.

Quarterback Derek Anderson started in place of Cam Newton. Newton was sidelined while recovering from a car accident Tuesday that left him with two fractures in his lower back.

Anderson threw for 277 yards and a touchdown, and Graham Gano kicked four field goals.

Panthers Coach Ron Rivera says Tampa's offense was strong out of the gate.

“They fought, they did a great job over there. Give Tampa bay credit. Kudos to them for forcing us to kick three field goals early on.”

The Panthers are still alive in the NFC Southern Division playoff race.

They will host the Cleveland Browns next Sunday.
