House lawmakers have passed their own version of a bill to regulate abortion clinics in a committee meeting. This comes after Governor McCrory said he would veto a similar bill passed by the Senate.
The House's bill was worked into an unrelated measureand passed in a Judiciary committee meeting this morning. The new bill shares some features of a previously passed Senate measure that places tighter restrictions on clinics that provide abortions.But its differences include having the Department of Health and Human Services write its own regulations for licensing abortion clinics, rather than requiring the clinics to meet existing ambulatory surgery center standards. And it would allow women to take subsequent doses of abortion-inducing pills at home after taking the first dose under a doctor's supervision.
The surprise bill was passed in committee about two hours after Governor Pat McCrory's office issued a statement saying the Governor would veto the Senate's abortion clinic billif it landed on his desk.
