Fundraisers of proposed Greensboro Performing Arts Center announced this week they’ve received $20.7 million dollars in pledged private support. Proponents of the project want to bring a venue similar to D-PAC to Greensboro. It’s estimated to cost $60 million  and the hope was to raise one third of that through private channels.

Due to this fundraising success the goal of private donations has now increased from $20 million to $30 million. Greensboro has an aging auditorium and leaders want to replace it with a state of the art facility. This week, Guilford County Commissioner will consider allocating $10 million from a hotel-motel tax for the performing arts center. Next Tuesday the City Council could vote on whether or not to buy six downtown plots of land that could be used as a site for the location.
