Researchers to Design a Future Internet

Researchers from NC State and UNC Chapel Hill are working on an improved blueprint for the Internet. The project is part of the National Science Foundation’s effort on “Future Internet Architecture.”  The team in North Carolina is focused on making more choices available to end-users. Ilia Baldine is a senior researcher at UNC.

Ilia Baldine: "Today these choices are typically limited, typically vertical within one provider. You can get services A, B or C from a given provider, but it’s hard to go from one provider to another. And we think that perhaps part of the solution to unlocking innovation within the Internet is the ability to give consumers to those services easy choices between providers. "

Researchers are aiming to design software that helps consumers make more informed choices. They hope to create a prototype of the choice infrastructure within three years.
