It has been nearly four weeks since the partial government shutdown began. It has blocked pay and benefits for federal workers and those who depend on federal programs.

One of the many disruptive - but more discreet - effects of the shutdown for North Carolinians has to do with where some people will get their next meal.

The partial government shutdown is in its third week. While thousands of furloughed federal workers are affected in North Carolina, some from the Environmental Protection Agency are keeping busy as volunteers.

The partial federal government shutdown has food bank operators nervous that they could lose food distributions from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Meanwhile, the families they serve could also lose food benefits.
