ANNOUNCER COPY: Coming up…Sound Opinions hosts Jim and Greg report back from SXSW with a new list of bands-to-watch. Plus, Kendrick Lamar’s unique hip-hip philosophy


• Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot remember Michael Brown, the keyboard player for Left Banke, who wrote “Walk Away Renee” when he was only 16 years old. Brown died  March 19th at age 65.

• Jim and Greg share impressions of this year’s SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX. The annual conference remains a top music destination for members of the music industry, as well as fans. This year’s keynote was given by rapper Snoop Dogg, while panels of note included speakers Henry Rollins, Win and Will Butler of Arcade Fire and economist Paul Krugman.


Jim and Greg share their favorite musical discoveries from SXSW. These up-and-coming bands are ones to watch in the year to come. Artists include Wolf Alice, Torres, Soak and Bully.


Jim and Greg review To Pimp a Butterfly by rising hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar.
