Sound Opinions Show

Jul 2, 2015

ANNOUNCER COPY: Coming up… Georgia-born singer/songwriter Torres uses her raw, emotional voice to confront the past. Then, a review of the new album from alternative R&B singer Miguel.

Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot remember bassist Chris Squire of the progressive rock band Yes, who passed away on June 26 at the age of 67. Squire was the only constant member throughout every iteration of Yes and is regarded as one of the best bass players to have ever lived.

With her 2015 sophomore album Sprinter, singer/songwriter Torres has earned a great deal of critical attention for her emotionally intense confessionals. She offers a live performance and speaks with Jim and Greg about studying songwriting in college, confronting her childhood in her music, and drawing inspiration from literature.

Jim and Greg review Wildheart, the third album from Grammy-winning R&B singer Miguel. With erotically charged songs reminiscent of Marvin Gaye, Miguel is part of a recent resurgence in alternative R&B along with acclaimed artists like D’Angelo, Frank Ocean, and Shamir.

At the end of the show we hear comments from listeners.
