Russell Moore's bluegrass career has included a stretch as a member of Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver band and as the leader of IIIrd Tyme Out since 1991. Born in Texas, he moved to North Carolina and later Georgia to follow his bluegrass dreams. Moore has been named IBMA Vocalist of the Year five times and the band has claimed Vocal Group of the Year seven consecutive times.

No stranger, obviously, to the IBMA,  Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out were in Raleigh for the IBMA World of Bluegrass in early October and they also dropped by a WUNC event at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh to play a set.

Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, and  The Spinney Brothers also performed at the WUNC event on October 1, 2014. All four artists' concerts were later featured on WUNC's Back Porch Music.

Additionally, on the same evening, WUNC produced a special live broadcast with Washington, D.C.-based WAMU's Bluegrass Country.

The IBMA selected Raleigh as its home in 2013 and will remain in the capital city through 2018. The event includes dozens of venues and hundreds of concerts across the area, including Wide Open Bluegrass, in addition to a business conference and trade show hosted at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Russell Moore is also a pretty snappy dresser, in addition to being a superlative bluegrass vocalist - and, he and band certainly set toes to tappin'.
