For 55 years, scientists on Isle Royale in Michigan’s Lake Superior have been tracking the relationship between wolves and moose. But this year, for the first time in decades, no wolf pups were born on Isle Royale - jeopardizing both the study and the fate of the island’s pack.
Host Dick Gordon speaks with John Vucetich, a biologist who has spent his entire adult life watching the how the animals interact with each other. Vucetich tells Dick that the U.S. National Park Service now has a big decision to make: whether to intervene and bring new wolves over from the mainland in order to save the population, or let nature takes it course and potentially let the wolf population on Isle Royale die out.
