[Images] Documenting Moral Mondays, Camera And Canvas

Barber listening to a speaker, painted
Credit David C. Taylor
"This was the second Moral Mondays painting I did. To me it is an iconic image of William Barber. He is a really big man. He's partly behind the speaker, and yet he fills the right front of the painting."

They are both named David. Dave Otto is a photographer, David C. Taylor is a painter. Together, they are providing some of the most stunning visual images related to the Moral Monday protests.

David Taylor went to one protest by himself. "I just kind of wanted to be a part of it, but I felt like an outsider. I didn’t know where the event was, I wasn't sure how to get close to the speaker. I didn’t even take my camera."

Dave Otto, on the other hand was determined to participate. He took his camera, and was eventually arrested.

When Dave the painter saw Dave the photographer's images, they agreed to work together.

The two men hope to create a traveling exhibition of their work.
